About the potter

Anthropologist by profession, potter by vocation

Who

I teach cultural anthropology at a state university for the really big bucks, and am developing myself as a potter to keep the brain creative.

What

I experiment with several types of forms, mostly functional after some fashion, hand built (slabs, coils, pinching) and thrown with sculptural elements. My personal favorites are my footed ‘giving bowls’, tilted bowls on critter feet inspired by a 5,500 year old Egyptian bowl on human feet.

Why

Why "old lady"? Because I didn't stumble upon this preoccupation until a comparatively advanced age.

Why the crow (or is it a raven…)? Because they are very cool birds that most folks don't give a second thought to. That speaks to me.
